When life gives you lemonade...

It's one of the oldest businesses any young entrepreneur remembers starting. They aren't around as often anymore but the neighborhood curbside lemonade stand used to be a staple among communities all across the Country. Children of all ages would haul their tables, chairs, and homemade signs out to the major walkways so they could catch the eyes of thirsty pedestrians or motorists eager to support their cause.

No one that I can remember ever got rich off of running a lemonade stand. But, if a kid made a few bucks during an afternoon of serving watered-down and lukewarm lemonade it sure felt like they had hit the jackpot. Selling lemonade on the corner isn't about the money that you're making. It's about learning the basic principles of business. What will your signs look like? What time of day will see the most traffic? Where is the best place to set up shop? All of these questions and more will need to be answered if you're going to be in the lemonade stand business...read more

The Most Expensive Home sold in Arizona last week

The most expensive home that sold in Arizona last week is a throwback to a different time and era. Built in 1950, this luxury bungalow would have been considered a lavish and extravagant property. It's seen it's fair share of updates since then but is starting to show it's age once again. They say location is everything in real estate. If your ambition is to be in the heart of Scottsdale you'd be hard pressed to find a more desirable area. Situated on over two acres of land the new owner didn't just purchase the main living quarters when they closed on this deal...read more.

What I learned in Real Estate this week - 8/9/15

One of the agents who works under my brokerage closed on her very first transaction this week. Now, when I say she closed on her very first home purchase I mean it. She had never bought a home before...Ever! Not only was this her first real estate transaction it was for herself. Purchasing a home for herself wasn't the reason she became a real estate agent. However, when it became clear to her that buying a home was a very real option for her and her family earlier this year, she jumped at the chance.

It was fun for me as her broker to answer all of her questions throughout the process. The childlike enthusiasm she had when viewing properties and discussing contracts with me is one of the reasons I love being a mentor and a broker for new agents. It allows me to see the world through the lens of someone new to the industry. It helps me revisit old topics routinely and keeps my skill set sharpened...read more

Animals of the MLS

It's back to the canine companions for this week's installment of Animals of the MLS. I'm having a hard time telling whether this pooch is real or stuffed. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he is still among the living although I'd entertain the argument from the other side. He certainly seems quite fixated on some sort of object or activity that is going on beyond the photo shoot in which he has no idea he's the star. His ears are perked up and his tail is in a neutral position so the body language tells me he's more curious than defensive...read more
