"Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" is a hugely popular show on the Food Network channel hosted by renowned chef and restaurant owner Guy Fieri. The show features Guy traveling around the entire Country stopping and eating at mom and pop restaurants that are wildly popular with the locals but may or may not be well known to a vast audience of consumers.
Restaurants in Arizona have been featured before on the show including Gilbert's very own Joe's Farm Grill. But now another Gilbert restaurant will be able to add this honor to their resume. Sal's Gilbert Pizzeria is slated to be one of the featured restaurants on the show which airs February 27th. Sal's Gilbert Pizzeria is a New York style eatery that opened it's doors in 2006. Owner Sal was born in Sicily and moved to New York in 1984. He began working in his brother's pizzeria which he eventually took over. Sal graduated from Culinary school in 2003 but it was after vacationing in Arizona in 2000 that he knew this was the place he wanted to raise his kids and start a new restaurant.
The menu at Sal's Gilbert Pizzeria is full of classic Italian foods such as Baked Ziti, Bolognese, Chicken Alfredo, Calzones, Strombolis, and some of the absolute best pizza you'll ever find. I have eaten at Sal's plenty of times and the nightly wait to get a seat there is about to increase exponentially now that the national spotlight is being shown on them.
