Deep frying the Thanksgiving Turkey has steadily grown as a popular method of preparing your bird for the holiday meal. This method of cooking turns out a tender, moist, and delicious turkey. However, if you choose this approach to cooking your turkey you'll have gallons of used oil left in which you must now find a way to properly dispose. The Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) estimates that Americans generate 1.8 million tons of household hazardous waste per year. Even relatively small quantities of household waste can contaminate soil and water when improperly poured down drains or on to the ground.
Gilbert, Arizona has a fast and free option for residents to rid yourselves of all that unwanted grease. The Household Hazardous Waste recycle center will accept up to 10 gallons of used oil per day. This includes all plant-based oils, used motor oil, and even old gasoline. Your discarded drippings will be responsibly recycled. The entrance to the collection facility is off of Queen Creek Road just one half block west of Greenfield Road. You must also bring a picture I.D. or your most recent Town of Gilbert Utility bill as proof of residency.
